The Slab Boys Trilogy is a three-part play series written by Scottish playwright John Byrne. The plays were first staged between 1978 and 1984 and are set in a carpet factory in the 1950s in Paisley, Scotland.
The first play in the trilogy, "The Slab Boys," focuses on two teenage boys, Phil and Spanky, who work as slab boys in the factory. The play explores their relationships with each other, as well as with the other workers and their supervisors.
The second play, "Cuttin' a Rug," takes place a year later and follows Phil and Spanky as they attend a dance. The play deals with themes of love, jealousy, and class differences.
The third and final play, "Still Life," is set ten years after the events of the first play and centers around the reunion of the factory workers. It examines the changes and challenges they have faced in the decade since the first play took place.
The Slab Boys Trilogy is considered a classic of Scottish theater and has been produced worldwide. It has also been adapted for radio and television.
